Majapahit Collection |
In terms of design, it was a response to a dialogue between his childhood experience in Indonesia and his much later acquired knowlege of western sensibilities. In terms of style, it was a response to that eternal dialogue between the past and the present. It was never therefore a matter of discarding the past and creating a rootless present. It was a matter of creating a bridge from the past to the future. Restricted technology and a loss of refined quality in traditional craftmanship became the driving force in the creation of designs that are characterized by their economy of lines and simplicity of shape. Creations that are devoid of pretension.
