Opening this month on a terraced area plantation, outside
Hangzhou. The Fuchun Resort is an antidote to glittering shanghai, a two-hour
train ride
away. Architect Jean Michel Gathy and designer Jaya Ibrahim (Both of Amanresort
fame) have gone minimalism with a chinese twist, from the teahouse meets
the imperial hall exterior, to the Ming-inspired furniture, to hilltop
ancestral shrine. Guest can golf for $130 a round, and although membership
in the club is a cool $100,000 its roster is already a who's who of communist
capitalist and Sino-industrialist returning home in style.
