Solo Unveils The East Asia Collection

Just before the close of the last century, Solo's principal designer, Jaya Ibrahim went to China for the first time. Expecting a strong sense of Communistic discipline, Jaya was very disappointed. Not only were the present Chinese then, seem to be so eager to embrace capitalism greed, what was overwhelming was the acute awareness of the greatest legacy of communism: the almost complete destruction of the 5,000 year of Chinese culture and the disappearance therefore of that most refine sensibilities found nowhere else on earth, neither amongst the North, West nor South.

Following his father's footstep, who came as a representative of the Indonesian government in the early 1960s, to seek opportunity for Indonesia to work together with the Middle Kingdom, Jaya was determined to dig out what was left from the ashes of this destroyed Chinese sensibilities, Indeed the period of transition between the last century and the present one, saw the reawakening of China as we see today particularly in Shanghai.

To look back can only be to understand the essence of the past. In creating the East Asia Collection, Jaya tried to take the essence of the Chinese sensibilities. It was a daunting exercise, indeed almost impossible. Just as impossible to comprehend and really understand the achievement of the Chinese civilization for the past 5,000 years.

Solo recently unveiled The East Asia Collection by Jaya Ibrahim and John Saunders at an invitation only evening affair in its showroom in Jakarta. The new collection consists of 16 new inspirational furniture and accessories, including an array of dining and occasional chairs, lounge furniture, dining tables and occasional pieces.

The East Asia Collection is available to the public through Solo Store and its retail partners worldwide.
