The collection was conceived to give a simple contemporary look with an Eastern inflection. It was designed to combine a strong and supple definition with an unobstrusive and relaxed style.

An authoritative friend, viewing the designs, immediately identified this as having an affinity with the "Dacha" style of Russia.

For the designer, John Saunders, after drawing inspiration from The Imperial Russian style for some of the furniture for The Dharmawangsa, this came as an unexpected revelation.

It does however help to explain a design that turns out to have an elusive sense of period and an absence of trendiness. Or so it seems now.
